I will not talk about exposition or metering system, not even the rules of composition. I will take a more straight forward point of view. Your images are boring ? Maybe it's time to check your process of taking pictures.
For a pure camera settings points of view, remove the burst mode, go for manual focus, go on aperture priority, this will force you to take more time to thing your pictures.
Every time I wonder in the street to shoot something, I keep looking for something interesting to take, sometimes you will find it quite easily, sometimes not. But the most important question you should ask yourself is : why ? Why do I take this picture ?
If you can't answer (and the answer can be as simple as I like the colors), then maybe you shouldn't take that picture. This simple trick should helps you to avoid shooting 500 pictures and finally not keeping one. A fair ratio if you shoot outside should be 80% of ok picture. Because you have no pressure. Especially for stills, portrait, movement one will sometimes go wrong, but not the stills.
